Written by Catie Beaulieu, Founder of A Therapist Like Me
It all started when…
I noticed a trend in a lot of the clients coming to me. Clients were both self-referred and referred by others because they can see that I am a person of color, because I “look queer,” or saw me at a meditation. Others said they were coming because they were told I was adopted, heard I was born in a different country, or that I was neurodiverse.
Often times, therapist directories focus on the specialty or modality of a therapist. While specialty or modality may certainly be important for some people in determining a good fit, I learned that many of my clients were choosing me because I was like them in some way. A Therapist Like Me was created to support minority-identifying clients, minority-identifying therapists, and our community.
